Why from Limehouse to Thames Gateway

Chinese community started from the very humble beginning at the East End 's Limehouse district that dating back to the mid 1800's. Today, over 80,000 Chinese people of diverse origins living in London . They worked from different area and professional industry and playing a vital role of London social and economical development.

Thames Gateway in east London is a central government's priority area for regeneration and also identified as a priority for growth in the London Mayor's spatial development, transport and economic development strategies. The Mayor of London has decided the creation of a new Chinese business, cultural and social quarter in the region. The Chinese community is optimistically looking forward to engage with the development of this new Chinese Business Quarter in Thames Gateway.

The conference is strived at bringing together practitioners from London Chinese voluntary and community groups, Chinese business cooperates, London Development Agency, Think London, Business Link 4 London and other statutory agencies and mainstream organisations to have an open dialogue on London development and economic issues.

Aims of the Conference 

• Gathering various forces to strengthen the promotion of the Chinese community in London and making the Chinese community walk toward the Greater London development.
• To facilitate liaison between groups and develop lines of communication and representation between the Chinese voluntary and community groups, Chinese business sector and statutory agencies on key policy and planning issues which affects the Chinese community.
• To promote the role of the voluntary and community sector and establish effective partnerships between the Chinese voluntary and community groups, statutory agencies and the Chinese business sector.
• To identify the needs and work, also the opportunity with communities, service users and other agencies to develop appropriate action.

Target Audience

The conference welcomes the people from Chinese voluntary and community groups as well as business sector in London who are concerned about the community issues in particular about the Thames Gateway development. The conference also sincerely wishes that high government official, the senior officers from local authority, the chief executive officer from mainstream organisations as well as the people of the cultural and educational, commercial and media up to total 200 delegates.

London’s Chinese Community & London’s Bid to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Dear colleague,

You are invited to come and join us at a special community event hosted by London Chinese Community Network, London Civic Forum and London 2012.

London’s Bid to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is developing at a rapid pace. It is critical that London’s communities have the chance to voice their opinions about plans, as well as demonstrate their support.

This event has three aims:

1. To provide you with the opportunity to ask London 2012 your questions about London’s Bid.
2. To discuss with your community leaders and representatives, the benefits and opportunities for Chinese groups and businesses of hosting the Games in London.
3. To explore ways in which you can demonstrate your support.

The London Chinese Community Network (LCCN) in partnership with The Monitoring Group is organising a consultation seminar to look into all these issues and this is your unique opportunity to reflect your comments directly to the police authorities in respect to the Chinese community.
